Stricken Tanker ‘Eventin’ Secured in Baltic Sea

The disabled tanker EVENTIN, suspected of being part of Russia’s shadow fleet, was brought under control after drifting for several hours north of Rügen, Germany.

Emergency Response:

  • The German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies (CCME) took charge and coordinated a multi-agency response.
  • The emergency towing vessel BREMEN FIGHTER successfully connected to the tanker around 3 pm on Friday, preventing it from drifting further.
  • The multi-purpose vessel ARKONA and additional tugboats joined the operation to stabilize the situation.
  • A Do 228 aircraft monitored the surrounding sea area.

  • The 274-meter Panama-flagged tanker, carrying 99,000 tons of oil, lost maneuverability around noon on Friday.
  • The 24 crew members remained onboard, and evacuation was deemed unnecessary.
  • The tanker is suspected of being part of Russia’s shadow fleet used to evade sanctions.
